It was wrong of him to add it back, and it was just as bad for you to add it back. That sort of behavior easily devolves in to an edit war, and we can't have that kind of thing. If you revert someone's edit and they choose to add it back instead of coming to you and asking you why, you need to either try to contact that person through their user page yourself, or speak to any of the many mods/admins present on the IRC.
