A Administradora, também conhecida como a Anunciadora ou Helen,[1] trata dos assuntos das equipas RED e BLU, assim como os das TF Industries. Ela é a fonte da voz misteriosa e sem corpo que envia comandos e anuncia os eventos vitais durante as rondas. Uma mulher envelhecida, má e de inteligência dominante, a Administradora possui um olhar perfurante e o tipo de voz que comanda uma obediência total e constante... ou mais. O seu comportamento geral tende entre ou um pouco irritada ou vários estados de amarga decepção.

Papel e obrigações

A Administradora possui uma influência e poder consideráveis. Inicialmente pensava-se que era a dona das empresas RED e BLU, desde então foi revelado que Blutarch e Redmon Mann continuam vivos graças às máquinas de prolongamento de vida de Radigan Conagher. Apesar de continuarem vivos, nenhum dos irmãos Mann parece capaz de tratar dos assuntos das suas respectivas empresas, e por isso, para todos os efeitos pode dizer-se que a Administradora é quem as controla. Por consequência, isto garante-lhe controlo sobre todos os grandes governos do planeta. Ela mantém secretas as suas operações manipulando eventos pela calada. Qualquer desenvolvimento que chame atenções indesejadas é rapidamente encerrado com extremo preconceito.

Ela comunica com as duas equipas por um único microfone ligado a um painel de controlo central. Manipulando com habilidade uma enorme sequência de fios e entradas, ela consegue falar para um elevado número de comunicações incluindo as relevantes a todos os membros das equipas RED e BLU. As suas mensagens são transmitidas para as equipas através de um sistema de altifalantes Alarm-O-Tron 5000, este que por sua vez está ligado a uma placa com uma grande quantidade de sinais que se iluminam em situações de variada urgência, como por exemplo "Intruder Alert - RED Spy - In Base". Um ecrã gigante colocado em frente ao seu painel de controlo permite-lhe manter um olhar atento aos eventos a toda a hora. Os motivos exactos que a levaram a encomendar equipas de mercenários empregados pelas duas equipas para combates mortais numa base regular permanecem misteriosos.

A Administradora conta com um elevado número de empregados, incluindo a sua leal assistente Miss Pauling e vários messengers.

A Administradora considera as amizades entre empresas uma profundura brecha na confiança, proibida por contracto. Depois da sua assistente Miss Pauling lhe ter chamado à atenção que o Demoman da equipa RED e o Soldier da equipa BLU se tinham tornado amigos, ela abriu canais de comunicação especiais para os dois. Através destes canais ela encorajou pessoalmente cada um para matar o seu novo amigo para ganharem as mysterious and valuable new weapon desenvolvidas pela Mann Co. Tal como pretendido isto destruiu rapidamente a amizade a florescer entre os dois e assim começando os sete dias de war.


Death of Poopy Joe and Loss of Australium

Helen, Miss Pauling, and owner of Mann Co., Saxton Hale, were all questioned by several senators about the death of Poopy Joe (who they launched into space for one dollar), and the disappearance of all the Australium in the world. She gave them the undisclosed info, which included talk of her stockpiling Australium for years, and eighteen idiots to help her with it. The senators all were shocked by the story, and decided to end their questioning quickly afterwards. The document that contained the information had the word 'INCINERATE' stamped on it.


Director

The Administrator hired a director to record some background information about what the RED team members might say when asked questions from the files the Administrator gave the Director. Not intent on keeping him for long as she considers him to be a dupe and as sub-normal as the mercenaries, she gives the order to Miss Pauling to kill the director afterwards in a mine shaft. She also sends photos of the Sniper's parents, the Heavy's home and Minigun, and one of the Soldier's heads back to the RED team. After the mercenaries kill the messenger, she chastises them since the mini-television sets they carry are apparently extremely expensive, and warns them of the dangers of discussing the terms of their contracts with anyone. She does let them know that in this case, it was a rather absurd example and all gathered evidence – except the Soldier's heads – was destroyed.


Appearance

The Administrator's appearance has a storied past. It started with a fan rendition by the artist Makani, which spread around the Internet, proving to be rather popular. Shortly thereafter, the artist was invited to Valve headquarters for a visit where the design was then purchased. Many months later, during the promo for the Haunted Hallowe'en Special, a woman with a near-identical face could be seen standing next to Zepheniah Mann on his deathbed. Finally, on December 9, 2009, the Administrator's face was officially revealed using Makani's design with some slight clothing modifications. With the release of Meet the Director, the Administrator's appearance has undergone more changes.


Trivia

  • The Administrator is voiced by Ellen McLain, who was also the voice of GLaDOS and several other characters in the Portal series and the Voice Overwatch Dispatcher in Half-Life 2, making her appear in all of The Orange Box games.
  • The Administrator is implied to have been in a relationship with Saxton Hale some time ago, who refers to her as a "chain-smoking seductress".
    • In response to inquiries about her alleged relationship with Saxton Hale: "A lady never tells, and a gentleman never asks. More pertinently, an Administrator never forgets. Or forgives. Or relents. The Nosy Parkers among you would do well to remember that the next time you decide to paw through my confidential affairs like junkyard dogs."[2]
  • In Poker Night at the Inventory, an image of the Administrator makes a cameo as the Queen of Diamonds in the "Poker Night" and "Poker Night Alternative" decks.
  • According to a blog-post by herself[3], The Administrator gets one hour of vacation time per year, which she usually spends feeding pigeons in a park, and causes them to make war against each other.
