The Scout on grabbing items for teammates

The Backpack is a scrapped unlockable secondary weapon for the Scout. It would have allowed the Scout to pick up items, such as health, ammo, and metal, and drop them as needed on the field in order to allow easier access for allied players. This is similar to a feature for all classes in Team Fortress and Team Fortress Classic. The Backpack was eventually replaced by Bonk! Atomic Punch. It is unknown why this weapon was scrapped.[1]
