List of custom maps

Should we really have a list of custom maps? Unless there was another party that could determine if a map was of enough quality to be of tf2 standard that isn't the tf2 team making it official? Because this way we would never cover all the custom maps and catalog them all, since new ones are being created every day. Meter1060 14:31, 15 September 2011 (PDT)

Most of them are the ones announced on the TF2 Blog for the tf2maps competitions. - 6vKcd.pngnixshadow (t|c) 14:34, 15 September 2011 (PDT)
Sure but it doesn't seem to have any way of determining if a map is deemed to be able to be put on the wiki page. Meter1060 10:39, 20 September 2011 (PDT)
I guess that's one of the reasons there are Wiki editors here - we decide which ones are worth having on the page or not. » Cooper Kid (blether·contreebs) 12:09, 20 September 2011 (PDT)
Alright how about a map such as the Arena version of Harvest, which is one of the most popular Arena maps out there. Meter1060 21:26, 12 October 2011 (PDT)
I haven't seen arena_harvest on a server in about 2 years. User RagnarHomsar Userlink.png RagnarHomsar 21:27, 12 October 2011 (PDT)
I agree with RagnarHomsar. Maybe something such as the infamous cp_orange or some well-known VS Saxton Hale Mode maps would be better. Painted Vintage Merryweather 803020.pngFyahweather 21:32, 12 October 2011 (PDT)
Oh and VS saxton Hale's maps pretty much just use Arena maps, Custom or official. Meter1060 09:18, 13 October 2011 (PDT)
RagnarHomsar, thats probably because the number of Arena only servers have gone down. I play it all of the time on Freefrag's 24/7 arena server and is in fact one of the most played on there. Meter1060 21:35, 12 October 2011 (PDT)

about new content for the article

I believe the official TF2 wiki should mention user made maps that had a great impact on the players, even though some aren't following the TF2 standards, they impress by their quality and have been copied themselves by other mappers. As controversial it can be, Xenon's map Cyberpunk is a monuments of TF2 mapping, and deserve its own article in my opinion. My criteria are custom maps that even though they may not match TF2 standards are played a lot by the community. TF2stats.net may be a good reference for that. If needed, we may make a page for non-standard gameplay maps such as surf maps and VS Saxton Hale maps. What do you think? If no one makes an objection, I'll make it. --05:40, 26 October 2011 (PDT) Deity Link

pointless

if you have custom maps why not have custom skins and huds? pointless waste imo--Iaindude 06:34, 26 March 2012 (PDT)

Joining a server running an unofficial map will automatically download it to your computer. Lots of people use them and they are fully integrated into the game browser. Custom HUDs and skins are not. » Cooper Kid (blether) • (contreebs) 07:54, 26 March 2012 (PDT)
Additionally, Valve strongly encourages the use of custom maps for their Source games (as an example, there is an achievement in Day of Defeat: Source to download and play X custom maps). rZ 07:56, 26 March 2012 (PDT)

The addition of official map edits onto this page

Primrose, who does a lot of great TF2 item texturing has recently added to the list ctf_2fort_desert2 and created a page for it. I'm personally against the idea of official maps edits being on the wiki, one of the reasons being that it'll cause confusion for new players using the wiki and looking for the official 2fort. What's everyone else's opinion? The preceding unsigned comment was added by Theharribokid (talk) • (contribs) 05:54, 5 April 2012

There are a few community-made maps on the wiki, but they're not given an article until they're well-known enough to merit one. The page you mentioned was moved because it didn't meet enough criteria. » Cooper Kid (blether) • (contreebs) 08:21, 7 April 2012 (PDT)

C. War Games map

Can someone explain to me why a map like "Canterlot War Games" cannot have its own article? It's decently made, and it's a custom map. Is it not good enough? Is it not popular enough? TF2maps listing, screenshots, alternate download, 2nd place, and the map that got first place, though I haven't had a chance to play on it yet. Dogman15 02:12, 18 December 2012 (PST)

Suggestions

I think we need to change the list so that it shows the map authors. pl_waste is also not standard payload gameplay (it's "tug-o-war" style). --Goatcheese3 03:56, 22 February 2013 (PST)

Pro Map Versions & MvM

Should we also include pro maps on this page, like Barnblitz, Coldfront, and Viaduct Pro maps? It's relatively important to point out why there are so many people running these maps (FPS hit from particle effect of snow, overall performance) all over the community. We also need to point out the flow of community maps for Mann vs Machine, and the TF2Maps.com contest for community maps. People might be interested in that, too (although I personally really want a community map server for MvM) MatrixD 15:31, 4 March 2013 (PST)MatrixD

Balloon Race and Orange

Why aren't these added? The 1st I'm sure that some people haven't heard of, but Orange? Seriously? There are countless remakes that people have made, so why not feature the original orange on here as CP? The preceding unsigned comment was added by Wafflesrawsome (talk) • (contribs)

Be Bold! If you think we need a page, add it! Darkid (Talk | Contribs) 20:56, 20 August 2014 (PDT)

Where is Drogentote?

Its a custom map and we even have a page for it. The preceding unsigned comment was added by ScottishDrunkard (talk) • (contribs)

Trade Maps

Is it necessary to make a section about trade maps on the wiki? Trade maps are quite popular to traders Villager3056 (talk) 02:31, 14 October 2016 (PDT)

Are the admins here really active or not Villager3056 (talk) 02:38, 20 October 2016 (PDT)

I believe making a section on trade maps would be abused, similar to how we allowed community sites for a time being and we know how that went... Besides, trade maps are generally very basic and tend to not have an actual objective. Making an article on trade maps would just be very bland. Ashes (talk) 05:30, 20 October 2016 (PDT)

Where the heck is My World?

Someone put a heck of a lot of effort into this Omega Flowey boss fight map... how is there no page for it here?!? --Luigifan (talk) 02:25, 24 April 2018 (UTC)

Because most maps on this page were either part of something important, like a community mapping contest, or they are very well known maps that have had a lasting presence in TF2 (Achievement Idle, Walkway, etc.) Maps don't usually get pages on the wiki unless they were part of something that had some form of importance, whether or not they have a lot of work put into them. Regarding the presence of custom maps on the Wiki

Seeing as how the question of custom maps being included has caused nothing but vulgarities and personal attacks, I would like to put forth a discussion about whether or not unofficial custom maps should stay on this Wiki at all. We have no ways to determine whether a map is to be considered worthy of having its own article or not. On the other hand, they also don't have much significance to TF2 itself other than their usage on some community servers. Most of them have their own pages and such whereever they're uploaded anyway, be it GameBanana, TF2Maps, or something like that. Personally, I'm for removing all the custom map pages on the Wiki. Please leave your thoughts below. Killicon flaming huntsman.png VasyaTheWizard (talk) • (contributions) 19:07, 20 September 2019 (UTC)

I'm unaware of the vulgarity or personal attacks, but I can see this happening (I saw a while ago someone who was banned for adding offensive content to their UserPage, but I'm unsure on what was that about). In the topic of personal attacks, the Trivia on WelcomeToMyMine (mission) regarding the two Mann Up players could be classified as an attack to them, regardless if you see them as "toxic" or not. In any regard, I don't think the Wiki should specifically mention users for their actions, as it's done on WelcomeToMyMine page.
Because these maps are custom made, it's very easy for someone to add a reference on the map for something, just to be featured on the "Official Wiki".
In conclusion, I vote for removal of custom maps. Since we are in the topic of "user-created content", we should also remove user-created wallpapers from this page. I agree to removing the unofficial wallpapers as well. The userpage that was deleted for offensive content was throwing shade at our admins/moderators and some other editors (if I recall correctly, please don't take this as a fact). The reason they were so upset was that the page for their custom map was deleted or something like that, for which they held a grudge for over three years. Custom MVM missions should also be purged, along with pages about TF2Maps contests and community events (like Canteen Crasher), as they are of no relevance to TF2 in the Official Wiki. If a map was made official because it won a contest (as is the case with Mountain Lab), it can be mentioned on the page of the map itself. Custom map pages and MVM missions can be moved to the userpages of their creators, if they wish to keep them.
The trivia you mentioned, "GuYs lOOK i CaN CaRrY" and "The carrier's pocket slave" references the user BrutalPizza and Trickstabber. They are known for their toxic behaviour and are notorious for kicking new players frequently. At times they can be seen in the tour Two Cities when in Mann Up. Experienced Mann Up players encourage players that aren't close to them to never play with them, is definitely overboard. There is no room for personal attacks on the Wiki, especially not for personal attacks that link to their Steam profiles. I have removed it from the page. Killicon flaming huntsman.png VasyaTheWizard (talk) • (contributions) 06:07, 21 September 2019 (UTC)
It seems that the discussion isn't only about custom maps anymore. Please move it to the main wiki discussion.
I'm not against removing bad "articles", but this approach of deleting everything seems harsh. I've personally seen articles on custom MvM missions used to help coordinate players on some Potato's servers.
One thing we can't deny is that Valve's support isn't here anymore, you can't use "this is community-created content" as an excuse anymore. Whether we like it or not, community content is what's keeping the game "alive". — Tark lm(pt-br) 10:44, 21 September 2019 (UTC)

Template and page mismatch

Could someone inspect the template and make sure that the page content matches it, or vice versa where appropriate? I've noticed that some of the Control Point type descriptions aren't the same as they are on the template, and perhaps there are more inconsistencies. Jack5wikia (talk) 22:29, 8 October 2020 (UTC)
