Revision as of 06:37, 19 September 2011

This page is for suggesting new tips to be added to the project, or changes to the tips already in the Final page. Tips here will be regularly reviewed and, if of sufficient quality, will be moved to the Final page; tips not of quality will be left for editors to improve.

Formatting

Changes

When suggesting changes to current tips, include the existing full line from Final page, and your modified line below - this allows for easy comparison of your changes and for easy replacement within Final page.

* "Tip_1_1" "As a Scout, jump while in mid-air to change direction and avoid enemy fire."
** "Tip_1_1" "As a Waffle, invent a Dispenser to shoot chickens on the moon."

New tips

For new tips, simply suggest the tip's text - not adhering to tf_english formatting - this will be implemented if a tip is accepted into Final page. Feedback on new tips, or changes to them, should be given on a new line below the tip. Sign tips and responses to tips to make it easier to keep track of changes.

* "As a Waffle, invent a Dispenser to shoot chickens on the moon." ~~~~
** "As a Chicken, invent a Waffle to shoot Dispensers on the moon." ~~~~
*** I'm not a chicken though? ~~~~

Changes

Suggest changes or updates to current Final page tips here.

Scout

  • "Tip_1_6" "As a Scout, firing the Force-A-Nature in mid-air will give you a boost upwards." -RJ 03:57, 15 September 2011 (PDT)
    • "Tip_1_6" "As a Scout, firing the Force-A-Nature in mid-air will knock you back in the opposite direction to which you're aiming." -RJ 03:57, 15 September 2011 (PDT)
      • "Tip_1_6" "As a Scout, firing the Force-A-Nature in mid-air will knock you back in the opposite direction to which you're aiming; you can use this to extend the range of your jumps." -RJ 02:16, 17 September 2011 (PDT)

Soldier

  • "Tip_3_1" "As a Soldier, you can rocket jump to great heights by simultaneously jumping and firing a rocket at the ground."
  • "Tip_3_6" "As a Soldier, a crouch-jump will increase your rocket jump height!"
  • "Tip_3_11" "As a Soldier, angle your rockets slightly behind you to propel yourself forward faster!"
    • "Tip_3_1" "As a Soldier, you can use rockets to alter your jump, the angle of trajectory in which your rocket impacts will change your speed and velocity. Crouching will also increase your distance." - 6vKcd.pngnixshadow (t|c) 21:45, 15 September 2011 (PDT)
      • I feel these three can be condensed into one.- 6vKcd.pngnixshadow (t|c) 21:41, 15 September 2011 (PDT)
        • I wonder if this could be simplified, "the angle of trajectory in which your rocket impacts will change your speed and velocity" - this seems a bit of a mouthful for a tip. -RJ 02:16, 17 September 2011 (PDT)
          • How about, "Simultaneously Jump-Crouching and shooting a rocket behind you would propel yourself forward further and faster, while Simultaneously Jump-Crouching and shotting a rocket right at the ground below you would propel you high into the sky."chongy 07:12, 18 September 2011 (PDT)
            • Not really a fan of that either. :s Perhaps "As a Soldier, you can rocket jump to great heights or distances by simultaneously jumping and firing a rocket on nearby surfaces; crouching as you jump will increase the energy you gain from the rocket." -RJ 07:30, 18 September 2011 (PDT)
              • Although I still feel it could be condensed a bit more (that's quite long.) That is much better. - 6vKcd.pngnixshadow (t|c) 23:37, 18 September 2011 (PDT)

New tips

Suggest brand-new tips here.

Scout

  • "As a Scout, you can combine the Atomizer and Force-A-Nature to achieve four consecutive jumps."
    • The FaN jump isn't technically a "jump", so I'm a bit iffy as to how this is worded - newbies reading the tip might interpret as meaning you can mash spacebar 4 times. -RJ 22:01, 15 September 2011 (PDT)
  • "As a Scout, the Soda Popper reloads faster than the Force-A-Nature, but does less damage."
    • Not sure if this is worth noting, no other tips compare weapons to weapons. -RJ 22:01, 15 September 2011 (PDT)

Soldier

  • "As a Soldier, the Righteous Bison can hit the same enemy multiple times, and will hit more on enemies who are moving away from you. Use it to punish retreating enemies!"
    • "Will hit more" throws me off from accepting this, really don't like how that's written. -RJ 22:01, 15 September 2011 (PDT)
  • "As a Soldier, the Disciplinary Action has a long range. Use it to quickly help slower allies to the front lines."
    • Not sure what the range has to do with the weapon's speeding people up. -RJ 22:01, 15 September 2011 (PDT)

Demoman

Engineer

  • "As an Engineer, be careful when using your Widowmaker near your Dispenser. If you are not careful, you will quickly deplete your Dispener's ammo reserve!"
    • "As an Engineer, be careful when using your Widowmaker near your Dispenser - it can easily deplete your Dispenser's ammo reserve!" -RJ 22:01, 15 September 2011 (PDT)
      • Hm, I was just about to add this; and then I changed my mind - people could use it to grief; adding it as a tip only increases how it can be used for mischief. -RJ 02:37, 17 September 2011 (PDT)

Medic

  • "As a Medic, the Overdose can help you run faster, if you already have some Ubercharge, but at cost of lower damage."
    • "As a Medic, the Overdose increases your movement speed based on ÜberCharge percentage, at the cost of 10% less damage per syringe." User RagnarHomsar Userlink.png RagnarHomsar 23:29, 15 September 2011 (PDT)
      • That's just re-stating the item's stats... don't think it's very helpful. -RJ 02:37, 17 September 2011 (PDT)
  • "As a Medic, if you need to heal a lot of patients on battlefield in no time, consider using Quick-Fix. But don't forget, that you will lose invulnerability with it."
    • "As a Medic, the Quick-Fix is worth using if multiple patients need healing within the same timeframe. Remember, though, that your ÜberCharge does not grant invulnerability, but instead an increased heal rate and immunity to knockback forces." User RagnarHomsar Userlink.png RagnarHomsar 23:22, 15 September 2011 (PDT)
      • "As a Medic, the Quick-Fix heals teammates much faster than it's alternatives, at the expense of it's ÜberCharge; it is worth using when you need to keep numerous teammates buffed." - other Medic tips use "Teammates", not "Patients" - we should use "Teammates" for consistency. -RJ 02:37, 17 September 2011 (PDT)
  • "As a Medic, the Crusader's Crossbow, if fired continuously at the same ally, has a faster rate of healing than the Medi-Gun."
    • Is this really something we'd want players who don't know better to be trying, though? And is it practical in an actual battle situation? User RagnarHomsar Userlink.png RagnarHomsar 23:22, 15 September 2011 (PDT)
  • "As a Medic, use the health information provided by the Solemn Vow to pick out weakened enemies."
    • "As a Medic, the Solemn Vow allows you to see the health of enemies; use this information to identify weakened enemies for your team to kill." -RJ 22:01, 15 September 2011 (PDT)
      • "As a Medic, the Solemn Vow allows you to see the health of enemies; use this information to identify weakened enemies to your team." -RJ 02:37, 17 September 2011 (PDT)
  • "As a Medic, the Overdose and the Quick-Fix make a great combination. Use the increased ÜberCharge rate of the Quick-Fix to build up a full ÜberCharge, then you use the Overdose to quickly escape if the need arises." User RagnarHomsar Userlink.png RagnarHomsar 23:29, 15 September 2011 (PDT)
    • See the below tip's comments. -RJ 02:37, 17 September 2011 (PDT)
  • "As a Medic, use the movement speed increase of the Overdose to reach other patients who also need medical attention quicker." User RagnarHomsar Userlink.png RagnarHomsar 23:29, 15 September 2011 (PDT)
    • This could be combined with the above tip to make it make sense. -RJ 02:37, 17 September 2011 (PDT)
      • "As a Medic, the Overdose and Quick-Fix make a great combination. The Quick-Fix builds ÜberCharge faster than it's alternatives, and the Overdose increases your movemement speed proportional to your ÜberCharge level. -RJ 02:37, 17 September 2011 (PDT)
        • Still not too sure if I like this tip though. It seems a bit... just repeating the item stats. -RJ 02:37, 17 September 2011 (PDT)

General

  • "Your critical hit chance increases as you do more damage. Melee weapons have the highest critical hit chance."
    • While true, the crit change is capped at 12% - this tip insinuates that if you do enough damage, you'll get a guaranteed crit. -RJ 22:01, 15 September 2011 (PDT)
      • "Your chance of performing a random Critical hit increases as you do damage, at a maximum of 12% chance per hit. Melee weapons have an increased critical hit chance compared to Primary and Secondary weapons." User RagnarHomsar Userlink.png RagnarHomsar 23:29, 15 September 2011 (PDT)
        • Meh, not sure how helpful this is... It's essentially saying "Do lots of damage to do a little bit more damage." -RJ 02:37, 17 September 2011 (PDT)
          • Is the fact that your Critical hit chance builds up with damage inherently obvious in-game? User RagnarHomsar Userlink.png RagnarHomsar 23:32, 18 September 2011 (PDT)
