Speculation

I don't have any references, and being a fan of the civilian always inetrested in the topic, i do recall reading the opinion that Valve introduced the payload map instead of the civilian because griefing was too easy with the civilian in TF2Nooch 18:26, 16 October 2010 (UTC)

Seems like the case. Added. NottNott 13:35, 2 March 2013 (PST)

What is with the non official civilian model? If it is by valve but unused, say so. If it is community made, why is it there? Else, elaborate. Woops, that looks too much like code.--Kurathedog 04:28, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

Civilian Sightings

For a bit of fun, I thought we could list some Civilian Sightings in TF2 games and give a description of what their behavior was.

To start off, a friend of mine spotted a Demoman Civ, he died and burped alot. Untamed64 00:08, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

3 more civilian sound files

In the game files, you can find medic1.wav and medic2.wav. In the SFM files you can find something about an "Unknown Soldier" in the facemovie folder and that sound file is just the civilian saying "My arm!" in MTE. Also in the console versions of The Orange Box, you can hear the crit death sounds --Frying1Pans (talk) 09:25, 12 April 2015 (PDT)

A/T-posing meme status

As discussed on IRC: I suggest separating the guides and tips/tricks of the reference pose stuff that does not belong to Civilian specifically, and so the patches against this.

All the bois in reference pose on the Gallery.

Yay or nay? Also, I think this page shows its age, I'm not sure how to feel having a page that tells about the scrapped Civilian class, the reference pose, and the tenth class. I think the page should only mention about the scrapped Civilian class, and have a brief mention about the "Civilian" term used by the community, but nothing too lengthy (if going on this route, then the images I'm requesting shouldn't be made). And move how to get into the "reference" pose on the bugs section of each class/weapon page (how to get the ref pose in Heavy would go on the Heavy page, on the Bugs section). Should this page really be for discussing Reference Pose bugs?

I really don't think it should to be honest. The "Civilian" name used for these bugs is just colloquial as the proper term is Reference Pose. This article should specifically be about the Civilian class that was intended to be in the game along with any updates to the civilian.ctx file and such. Reference Pose bugs should be on a bugs article somewhere. Thefixer2021 (talk) 10:26, 28 July 2021 (UTC)

Furthermore the update history section needs some removals and additions. The aforementioned civilian.ctx file has had a couple updates which I don't see listed. And the bottom-most patch note about a scout double jump bug has really nothing to do with the Civilian at all. It again is related to the reference pose bug and that patch note (along with any others relating to the reference pose bbug) should be on another page. All the guard dog/10th class stuff should be elsewhere as well. This entire article is a mess. Thefixer2021 (talk) 10:30, 28 July 2021 (UTC)
It's fine, tbh. The tenth class part is obviously relating to the Civilian class that would be the 10th class in the game and as long as you can provide proof of the updates and when they happened it's fine to be added there.
As for the reference pose bug, the bug has no "proper term" (unless I've missed Valve official calling it the "Reference Pose bug" similar to this blog post). The fad is often called the civilian pose and this page just mentions everything that the "civilian" term is associated with which includes this bug. It shouldn't be moved, as it's perfectly fine here (Nor should these bugs be mentioned on individual weapon/class pages' bugs sections). The last patch note is in relation to the reference pose, so it should be kept as well.
GrampaSwood (talk) 10:49, 28 July 2021 (UTC)
It doesn't matter if Valve has referred to it as such or not. The pose itself is known in general gaming as a reference pose. TF2 isn't the only game where character models have a reference pose. And accessing this pose requires the use of bugs. Therefore, reference pose bug. I did not state the bugs should be listed on individual weapon/class articles and I'm not sure where you inferred that from. They should be on a bugs page. And the guard dog thing belongs on some other article related to fake community updates. I stand by my statement that this article is a mess. You also failed to address the missing patch notes where the Civilian class ctx file had been updated, but I understand that first you have to wait for someone to get the exact patch date(s) in which the file was changed, so hopefully that can be updated in the near future. Thefixer2021 (talk) 12:03, 28 July 2021 (UTC)
It has no official term, you find this term more appropriate but there is no official term. I just said it shouldn't be listed on other pages either, as that has been done in the past by editors, I never said anything about you wanting to do that. It's perfectly fine if they're listed on here, for the reasons I mentioned before (This page serving as a page that covers everything related to the term "civilian" and not just the class itself). I also don't understand what you mean with "you failed to address the missing patch notes", as you directly after even repeat what I said on the matter.
Seeing the 10th class section, all it talks about is the possibility of a 10th class which is what the Civilian could have been. It simply talks about mentions of a tenth class and then goes on to mention how it has become a running joke with the developers/community and then mentions a fake update which was mentioned on the blog (Hence why it has its own page).
It seems like all of this information is perfectly fine to stay on the page, it's okay to disagree with that but unless other wiki editors agree that it needs to be changed, it's unlikely that anything will get moved.
GrampaSwood (talk) 12:31, 28 July 2021 (UTC)
Well since it apparently requires other editors to change, I can see there's no point in trying to provide factual information here. At least one wiki is correct. Guess I'll start editing there instead. Thefixer2021 (talk) 14:19, 28 July 2021 (UTC)
Ok.

Explaining the methods to A pose

The Cheating article has a "Don't explain how to do" notice because ruins matches. Similarly, Exploits too. Then, the methods listed here should be deleted, as it ruins the common (and intended) match experience (you know, both teams wants each other dead) · Ashe (talk) 05:43, 18 September 2021 (UTC)

This is a bug that isn't really giving a gameplay advantage to anyone. The ConTracker pose bug doesn't have an explanation of how to do it, because it'll change the visual model but not the hitboxes, which will give a clear gameplay advantage. While T-posing isn't how the game was "intended" to play, it also doesn't really give you an advantage.

Civilian pose method in VSH gamemode

A method I know of to civilian pose in the Versus Saxton Hale mode is to type the "autoteam" command during setup. I don't know the specifics of how it works and whether the method does work seems reliant on the server as some servers do not make an intended result while others are the opposite. When the server does work for this method you will die as you enter the command and then you select the same class as before entering the command to enter the civilian pose. I decided I would put this here since there is an MVM method listed. Wild pyroshark (talk) 23:54, 24 August 2023 (UTC)

Interesting, I'll test this out later today. Payn (talk) 00:32, 25 August 2023 (UTC)
Forgot to mention it can only be done on red team since saxton hale is always the minority team and cannot autoteam into red Wild pyroshark (talk) 01:04, 25 August 2023 (UTC)
Ah, I was confused originally as the way you worded it was as if Saxton Hale was the one A-Posing. Yes, that seems quite plausible, I'll try it out. Payn (talk) 06:29, 25 August 2023 (UTC)
You would need to provide a video proof of the method working before it's added.
BLU Wiki Cap.png | s | GrampaSwood (talk) 11:32, 25 August 2023 (UTC)
Do I need to record queueing for casual or just the method itself. Wild pyroshark (talk) 12:35, 25 August 2023 (UTC)
Just showing off the actual bug being performed.
BLU Wiki Cap.png | s | GrampaSwood (talk) 12:36, 25 August 2023 (UTC)
Should I put the video on youtube and link to it or is there another method used. Wild pyroshark (talk) 12:37, 25 August 2023 (UTC)
Link to it in the edit summary.

Ok I linked it in the edit summary for this edit Wild pyroshark (talk) 12:52, 25 August 2023 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── I meant the edit summary for when you add it to the actual page.

I'm not all that confident at editing pages but if you want me to I can try. Wild pyroshark (talk) 12:54, 25 August 2023 (UTC)
I can add it for you, don't worry.

Method to civilian pose as certain classes in zombie infection

I have found out how to civilian pose as Heavy and Pyro at the start of the zombie infection mode. The methods are as follow: For Heavy you must un-rev your minigun before you are chosen as zombie, For Pyro you must activate your thermal thruster before you are chosen as zombie. Since this method requires forcing the game into not allowing switching you into melee only, this means it can only be done at the beginning as you must be chosen as the first group of zombies, it also means that not all classes may be able to perform this as they may be unable to lock themselves into a weapon slot. If video proof is needed I will add it in the edit summary. Wild pyroshark (talk) 12:34, 14 October 2023 (UTC)

It does need proof, yes.
BLU Wiki Cap.png | s | GrampaSwood Praise the Sun! (talk) (contribs) 13:12, 14 October 2023 (UTC)
Both of the video proof is in this edit summary Wild pyroshark (talk) 13:54, 14 October 2023 (UTC)
If you meant when I add it to the main page I'm both not confident enough to make changes to it and am not sure how I should structure it for the page. Wild pyroshark (talk) 00:31, 15 October 2023 (UTC)
If you were to add it to the page, it would also need the videos in the summary, but I'll add it for you. Don't be afraid to make edits, however, any mistake can be undone and if you mess up the formatting it will be fixed in a future edit.

Thank you for choosing to add it for me. As I mentioned the videos for proof are in the edit summary of this discussion. Wild pyroshark (talk) 16:58, 17 October 2023 (UTC)
