Hello, Stylosa!

Welcome to the Team Fortress 2 Official Wiki!

Here are a few links to get you started:

  • If you're not too familiar with editing wikis, you might like to start with Help:Editing.
  • If you already are familiar with wikiediting, you might want to try Help:Style guide.
  • Recent Changes will let you see others' contributions as they happen.
    • To make Recent Changes more useful for all users, remember to provide an edit summary in the "Summary" field before you save your changes.
    • You can set the wiki to prompt you for a summary in your preferences.
  • When posting on an article's Talk page you should add four tilde symbols or ~~~~ onto the end.
    • This will add a signature and timestamp to your comment so others can easily tell who posted it.
    • Any new sections on an article's Talk page should be added to the bottom of the page and not to the top.
    • When editing normal article pages, don't sign your contributions.
    • You can use the Signature Icon.png button in the editing toolbar to quickly add a signature.
  • If you have any questions or need any help, please feel free to leave a message for a staff member.
  • If you have trouble with anything on the wiki or you're not sure about a specific topic, feel free to join the IRC.
  • You can also customize your user page if you like.
    • When uploading images for use on your user page, please add the prefix User Stylosa to the file's name.
    • Additionally, if you would like to add any self-made content to the wiki, please do so by adding the prefix User:Stylosa/ to the page title when you create the page.

Once again, welcome to the Team Fortress 2 Wiki!

Thank you, Mr Bot.

I am not Hat anymore.

Re. Top Notch edit. It should either be "item" or "cosmetic item". "Hat" is depreciated for any item except for an item that is actually clearly a hat (not a head). Mikado282 (talk) 12:51, 4 June 2017 (PDT)

The article refers to the cosmetic item as a hat four times already, excluding the edit that I made. Additionally, it’s called a hat in-game “Level 50 Hat.”
Furthermore, the cosmetic item is a cardboard box with a fedora, and the definition of “hat” is “covering for the head,” so technically, it’s a hat (or a hat with a hat) (or a mask with a hat) (or a box with a hat).

English

Help:Style guide#Spelling -- There is no standard preference on this wiki for UK or US spelling, only that that the spelling for a given word should be the same (UK or US) throughout the whole (single) article. Half of the English speakers of this wiki could disagree with that spelling (technically word choice in this case). Me? I ignore and I recommend ignoring every UK/US variant. Mikado282 (talk) 13:04, 4 June 2017 (PDT)

Seeing as how TF2 is an American game, I thought the wiki would use American English. Consistency is key, and I think that some articles using British English and some using American English is bad practice.

@Stylosa then @Nicho: Then propose the change to the style guide at Help talk:Style guide. I won't argue the style change point here, because this is not the place. The Help talk:Style guide is the place to discuss whether the wiki style should change to U.S. English. I will join you there. Mikado282 (talk) 18:34, 4 June 2017 (PDT)
Well I, Nikno, don't really feel like being the right mod/contributor for starting this discussion, since I'm not even a native speaker. I probably want to ask some other staff members. Otherwise I would've of course moved the discussion to the according place. Now we don't want to block this user page anymore. :) — shots fired by: Nikno {Talk | Contribs} 22:53, 4 June 2017 (PDT)
