Ellis' Cap is an unlockable headwear item. The hat features a tow truck design on it, it is a reference to the hat worn by Ellis, a character from Valve's zombie shooter franchise, Template:W.
Contents
Obtaining
Beginning October 6, 2010, Ellis' Cap, along with the Frying Pan, was awarded to anyone who purchased Left 4 Dead 2 before Thursday, October 7, 2010, 4pm Template:W, as well as anyone who had already purchased the game. If you purchased Left 4 Dead 2 from a retail store, you would still obtain the Ellis' Cap and Frying Pan as long as the game is linked to their Steam account. According to "Sacrifice: TF2 Items" on the Left 4 Dead Blog, anyone who owned Left 4 Dead 2 prior to the announcement would receive the item within a few days of the initial release. This has proven to be quite unexpected to Valve when the hats were not dropping. They fixed everything they could and some people got them based on luck of the draw or due to their cap limit not being reached.As of the October 12th patch, Ellis' Cap and The Frying Pan are considered tradable. But, as the items are currently considered "Purchased", the items cannot actually be traded.
