- Players take the role of dueling planeswalkers in the Magic the Gathering -- powerful mages that have gained the ability to travel through different worlds or planes. During the Lorwyn expansion block, new powerful card types called planeswalkers (including Garruk Wildspeaker) were introduced into the game.
- Garruk is a nature mage and beast caller. He is aligned with green magic, the color of healing in the card game.
