RE: Picture Widths

Sorry it took so long to reply to this, i will remember about picture widths and excess space when i contribute images in the near future, sorry for any inconvenience. Ermac And Cheese 13:04, 21 January 2013 (PST)

Next time, please respond on your own talk page so the discussion doesn't get lost. Darkid (talk|contribs) 13:05, 21 January 2013 (PST)

Dictionary Project

Welp I just finished demoman (finally). I'll reserve probably spy (not sure if your working on engineer). :D Ashes 00:40, 29 November 2012 (PST)

Gotcha. I wasn't reserving engie, I'd just done some work on it. I'm working on the heavy weapons guy right now. Darkid (talk|contribs) 06:05, 29 November 2012 (PST)
Welp due to me not having anything to do i'll reserve sniper. And maybe finish up Engineer for ya. Ashes 16:31, 5 January 2013 (PST)
Kay so!, All other dictionary achievements now have links. Astro was rather quick due to hardly anything to link. All thats left is for you to finish the heavy ones :P. So I basically just stole your project :D. Ashes 23:04, 13 February 2013 (PST)
Eh well I dun mind. I've got other projects, too. :) Regardless, I'll get to working on heavy some time soon. (I don't have external changes saved, though). Darkid (talk|contribs) 07:40, 14 February 2013 (PST)

This is a test.

Categories o.o

Heyo was browsing wanted categories and what not and i noticed these. [1]and [2]

Wasn't sure if its intentionally that you named them that or you meant to categorize them elsewhere. Ashes 14:03, 22 March 2013 (PDT)

Stupidity. I was doing something along the lines of so that I could copy-paste onto language pages; obviously this failed in the english case. Darkid (talk|contribs) 14:07, 22 March 2013 (PDT)
Ah k, Cause it struck me odd when i saw those in the list. Well least we cleared that up! :P Ashes 14:09, 22 March 2013 (PDT)

Template renaming

You know you can poot dis work to WindBOT if you want. User Moussekateer signature sprite.pngMoussekateer·talk 16:26, 5 May 2013 (PDT)

ORLY. Tell me how :D Darkid (talk|contribs) 16:47, 5 May 2013 (PDT)
You could edit this filter and and all the language variations for each template....or you could write a filter like dis (but I would check with Wind in case there's a better way):
def langsTemplateRenameMapping(t, **kwargs):
    templateMap = {
        'Pyro Nav': 'pyro nav/[\w]+'
    }
    for n in templateMap:
        langTemplateRe = compileRegex(templateMap[n])
        if langTemplateRe.match(t.getName().lower()):
            t.setName(n)
    return t
addTemplateFilter(langsTemplateRenameMapping)

User Moussekateer signature sprite.pngMoussekateer·talk 17:10, 5 May 2013 (PDT)

This did happen, but it should be noted that non-admins cannot edit WindBOT's filters, for security reasons. Darkid (talk|contribs) 04:02, 7 May 2013 (PDT)

May 28, 2013 Patch

We don't create patch pages for schema updates only. These changes will be included in a future patch anyway. User Moussekateer signature sprite.pngMoussekateer·talk 16:01, 28 May 2013 (PDT)

Gotcha. Forgot what the rule was, that's why we need this. Darkid (talk|contribs) 16:47, 28 May 2013 (PDT)

Dec template and common string

You may want to look at this diff. If the dec template is used on a number (for example on the weapons list template) then it tries to evaluate 0,4 < 1.1 which errors out. The number needs to be formatted after this evaluation, and not before. I don't have time today to look at this so if you want to have a look. User Moussekateer signature sprite.pngMoussekateer·talk 02:54, 5 June 2013 (PDT)

The goal of this template was to switch "seconds" and "second". So, I have changed the dictionary to reflect this, by putting in an #ifeq: expression to compare the parameter to the language appropriate phrase (1.0 or 1,0). This can be changed to compare against 1 as well. Darkid (talk|contribs) 05:40, 5 June 2013 (PDT)

I've added it. On an unrelated note what the heck is your talk page all about. It has to be purged and I can't edit sections ._. User Moussekateer signature sprite.pngMoussekateer·talk 11:58, 13 June 2013 (PDT)
It's transcluding which is transcluding this page. It's a long story, but it allows you to view my userpage and projects page without additional load times. Darkid (talk|contribs) 12:00, 13 June 2013 (PDT)

Figures Promo

I've seen your effort in trying to make this stuff work, but Dictionary will not work if it tries to find something inside it. You need to move the {} {} thingies to Common Strings or other Dictionary pages if you want them to work correctly with "template:item name". Proof. by Limie Pie 10:51, 17 June 2013 (PDT)

It's a problem with the Item name template, which is that it isn't configured to take parameters. I have thus moved the strings to Common Strings. Thanks! Darkid (Talk|Contribs) 11:50, 17 June 2013 (PDT)

Item icons

Item icon images have to be 512 × 384 pixels. You have uploaded 2 512 x 512 pixel images. Please consider this next time you wish to upload item icon images. Thank you. – Smashman (talk) 18:09, 19 June 2013 (PDT)

Ah, sorry. Should I crop them next time? Darkid (Talk|Contribs) 18:12, 19 June 2013 (PDT)
Please do. Also your talk page doesn't seem to work correctly. :S – Smashman (talk) 18:28, 19 June 2013 (PDT)
It works fine, it just doesn't have edit section links. Since each new talk page post is added to the bottom, I thought it would be ok. Darkid (Talk|Contribs) 19:02, 19 June 2013 (PDT)
It's always missing the latest message. That seems like a whole load of not working to me... – Smashman (talk) 19:04, 19 June 2013 (PDT)
Refresh the page. It takes more than a second to purge, but less than 5. Darkid (Talk|Contribs) 19:05, 19 June 2013 (PDT)
Still falls under my definition of not working. If it's not showing messages, it's not working. Also have no edit sections is rather annoying. Nobody wants to scroll through an entire page of text to get to where they want to edit. That's why section editing exists! – Smashman (talk) 19:06, 19 June 2013 (PDT)
The edit link (combined with control/apple-down) will fix this. I will look into this in the future, when I find the time. Again, it is showing messages. It simply takes more than a second. Darkid (Talk|Contribs) 19:08, 19 June 2013 (PDT)
Also why on earth would you remove a page's title? The last message never shows up unless I purge or make a new message. That's completely useless... – Smashman (talk) 19:13, 19 June 2013 (PDT)

────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────I shall explain it in full, then. I have, as a side project, set up my userpage (talkpage, projects page, etc) in such a way that, via a custom header, they can be switched between with merely CSS switching (as I am not allowed to add custom CSS, this had to be done with built-in templates). Relatedly, I felt that displaying two headers was redundant, as the header is at the top of the page anyways. That is a setting which can be changed. However, due to problems with anchor tags, it is not possible to display an TOCs on these pages, nor to use section links. In order to prevent someone, say, clicking on an edit section link and it failing on them (as it would), I have instead merely removed the edit section links altogether. Adding sections does still work, as do the edit buttons at the top of the page as well as the edit button within the header. I'm surprised that you have to purge, I haven't seen any other browsers on my end (nor heard any other people having issues) with that particularly. There is no easy fix for that, since the whole setup is constructed with templates. Darkid (Talk|Contribs) 19:18, 19 June 2013 (PDT)

Notice Moussekater talking about precisely the same problem a little while ago. "On an unrelated note what the heck is your talk page all about. It has to be purged and I can't edit sections ._." To me this whole project of yours seems pointless, perhaps even harmful. I doubt anyone who visits a single page of yours wants to download a bonus 6 (not even small) pages... – Smashman (talk) 19:36, 19 June 2013 (PDT)
Yes, I know. I'm aware that it's not the most comprehensive, thus I am working on it. In the meantime, I apologize for the inconvenience and extra load times. Darkid (Talk|Contribs) 19:44, 19 June 2013 (PDT)

Regarding Major updates nav, Category:ERROR and BASEPAGENAMEE

Primarily, BASEPAGENAME and BASEPAGENAMEE fulfil two differing roles. The extra E formats the text into a more robust format. It was not a spelling error, which should have been evident by the fact that it was working. Secondly, the Category:ERROR page does not update unless you edit the page. Thirdly, there is absolutely no need to save a BASEPAGENAME check. Simply previewing suffices. I'm glad I caught your modification to Major updates nav as I spent a while fixing the error that was previously occurring. Please check before you 'fix' that which is not broken. Thank you. – Smashman (talk) 18:58, 21 June 2013 (PDT)

If you could keep discussion centralized, that would be easier to read :) I was not thinking it was a spelling error, as I've said on your talk page. With your permission, I would like to move the above onto your userpage for readability. Darkid (Talk|Contribs) 19:00, 21 June 2013 (PDT)
I begun to write this before I was aware that you had left me message. For that reason, I deny permission. But we can continue the discussion there if you wish. I am fully aware of keeping a discussion upon the same page. – Smashman (talk) 19:04, 21 June 2013 (PDT)

3D viewer template

Can you tell me exactly what changes the template needs, and how you envision the viewer to look like with australiam/festive weapons. User Moussekateer signature sprite.pngMoussekateer·talk 07:48, 2 March 2014 (PST)

You mentioned the rewrite in Lua, but it's not overly important how its written. Currently the issue is that it cannot display normal and australium along with team-colored festive images. Ideally, each button could be any color and any width, but practically there only needs to be one colspan="2" button and for each pair of buttons a choice between normal color or team-colored. For the grenade launcher, it would look like:
Normal
Grenade Australium
Festive (RED) Festive (BLU)

(Although with appropriate colors.)

Festive GRU + SR projectile 3D Models

As you're not on the IRC right now, I thought I'd bring this up here isntead. The BLU skin for the Festive Gloves of Running Urgently 3D model needs to be changed, the gloves have their own BLU team texture, rather than using the same one as RED. In regards to the Scottish Resistance projectiles, the model for that is w_stickybomb_d.mdl, rather than w_stickybomb3.mdl, which is currently unused. w_stickybomb.mdl is for the default Stickybomb Launcher, and w_stickybomb2.mdl is for the Sticky Jumper. Hope this helps. --Omolong (talk) 20:07, 3 April 2014 (PDT)

It's a screenshot, not an extract. Just open up the main menu and f5. Darkid (Talk | Contribs) 09:12, 30 April 2014 (PDT)
Yes, I captured main menu screen, and that is the result. Even I lunch TF2 in 1920x1080, button image is smaller than one Devozade made. Helping me to use the dictionary quad properly

Looks good, but if you could add some automation to handle the "3D.jpg" and possibly the "RED/BLU 3D.jpg" it would be nice.
I made the point earlier that all the red/blue images are going to be paired and have a consistent naming style, so we should use that. Darkid (Talk | Contribs) 12:27, 5 September 2014 (PDT)
I implemented this at Module:3D Viewer/sandbox2. I've got a side-by-side test here. Darkid (Talk | Contribs) 09:07, 6 September 2014 (PDT)

3D images of Spy knife

Hi, there. This page is needed to updete 3D images of Carbonado and Diamond variants for BLU team. I think, do u have it? Like another time, Medi Gun Botkiller Silver Mk.II RED 3D image. Klinok101 (talk) 06:06, 14 October 2014 (PDT)

According to Omolong, the RED Carbonado and Diamond do not change wire colors. If you can provide an in-game example that they do, I will change the image. Darkid (Talk | Contribs) 06:32, 14 October 2014 (PDT)
Yeah, unless Valve have done something weird ingame that can't be viewed through HLMV (like with the Golden Wrench), then the Carbonado and Diamond botkiller wires don't have working team colours, so only one image is needed for both. --Omolong (talk) 13:43, 14 October 2014 (PDT)

Equip region script and infobox things

Hey Darkid, I've got two (hopefully) small things to bring up with you. I used your new equip region script to update the template, but I had to manually fix the entry for the Creature's Grin, due to Valve setting the apostrophe to use a non-standard version (it's Creature’s Grin instead of Creature's Grin as it should be). I got Moussekateer to move the page for the item not long after it was made, but obviously no dictionary entries and no icons were made because of this. I'm not sure if it'd be better to fix this in the script or to just set up the dictionary/icons so that they support the different name too, it's your call on that one.

The script is mutable, the wiki less so. Let's fix the script.

The second thing is in regards to Heal Grenade and other pages like it (I'm not sure how many pages it applies to, but I'm pretty sure it's at least all the grenades). There seems to be some sort of issue with showing the image while having either the unused or type lines in there. I tried removing those from that page, and while the image did show up correctly, the infobox ended up looking pretty off because of it. I've got no idea might be causing this or what the solution would be, but I thought that it would be good to bring it to your attention in case you had any idea what to do with it. --Omolong (talk) 18:05, 2 November 2014 (PST)

I will look into it. Expect to have a fix by morning. Darkid (Talk | Contribs) 18:07, 2 November 2014 (PST)
Oh that was a faster response than I was expecting. Thanks for that, anyway. Hopefully it won't be too hard to fix either thing. --Omolong (talk) 18:15, 2 November 2014 (PST)
Done. I'm fairly sure that was due to one of my previous edits :/ but it seems to be fixed now. Darkid (Talk | Contribs) 03:11, 3 November 2014 (PST)

Recent Categories...

Heyo, So i think the itemcount module you made added a bunch of Categories. Example: Vintage items, and so forth. Something that brings it up is... this. Aren't the categories extremely redundant if we have a giant template that pretty much notes every vintage, genuine, haunted, item. Thought i'd ask before making the categories. Ashes (talk) 10:37, 4 November 2014 (PST)

If you can find a way to pull information from those templates into Itemcount, go for it. Darkid (Talk | Contribs) 10:48, 4 November 2014 (PST)

3D Models

Hey there, Darkid. Question, do you remove the weapons from the 3D Model Needed area when you have completed them but are not on the pages themselves? I just noticed that some of the items are not shown on there and I just wanted to make sure with you. Thanks, and Happy Holidays! Rescue RangerKSquared 16:35, 24 December 2014 (PST)

I've got some in-progress renders that I haven't uploaded, I got sidetracked. Thanks for checking. Darkid (Talk | Contribs) 20:08, 24 December 2014 (PST)

About my Wiki project

Hey there. I saw your comment on Moussekatee's talk page, and I'm happy that you're interested in it. Right now I'm just looking for friendly advice, but if I can get somebody to do some of the more monotonous stuff like copying templates, it will allow me to write up more definitions and get the Wiki out of psuedo-alpha.

I do know what you do on the Wiki, and I'm not sure if I need to do any under-the-hood black magic yet. My main goal with the project is making a wiki that's easy to learn yet full of useful information - something that only a few wikis have done.

How do you want to approach this? I'll have to make a to-do list or at the very least a style guide. But talk to me as soon as you can of course.

Thanks,

Samuel Enthers 20:40, 7 January 2015 (PST)

Well you shouldn't need to _copy_ templates, that sorta defeats the purpose. You shouldn't need to make a style guide, I can make it with you. Unless you have some specific ideas. Darkid (Talk | Contribs) 21:24, 7 January 2015 (PST)
Well not copy the source code into the page; it's just that all of my star templates are very similar to each other due to the way parameters in templates work. I can't get parameters to hide data - just replace them with text or with other templates, which would either create a template soup or a hard-to-use system of manually adding in stars and spans. Not worth that.
So I just copy and paste the source code from another star template, modify it to suit the definition, and then put in as a new template. Not efficient, but the alternatives are so poor that this is my current solution.
I'll have to make a style guide eventually. I'll consider it when I get a few more definitions in order. And then I'll need to write how to use the Wiki and what it all means. When do I start that? Maybe when I have three definitions.
Also I'm seriously struggling with the concept of Wiki main page design and organisation. I'll cross those bridges when I get to them.
I just don't know when I'm ready to accept new users to edit the page. I need at least eight definitions and one game page for that to happen. Then I'll be comfortable.
--Samuel Enthers 22:09, 7 January 2015 (PST)
I've made a simpler template on my sandbox, which can be used for all definitions, if you want.
I'll let you get to 4-5 definitions before I try to contribute there. I'm not sure if I'm the right person for it anyways, although I do have speedrunning and competitive gaming perspectives.
Wikia is very fluid with main pages; you'd do fine to have a list of popular games/common themes or some of the more interesting results/facts. This would not need any particular organization, just a simple list or sub-sectioned list.
Darkid (Talk | Contribs) 23:05, 7 January 2015 (PST)
I have it. I'll let you know what I think tomorrow, due to it being so late right now.
Also, sorry for calling you Davik. That was a mistake.
--Samuel Enthers 23:45, 7 January 2015 (PST)
Do you actually know someone named Davik, or are you just obscenely tired? Darkid (Talk | Contribs) 00:14, 8 January 2015 (PST)
The latter.
The amount of joy I had upon seeing the template be exactly as I wanted it to is marred by the amount of time it took for me to express it. It's clean and it's simple, and also easy to document. I'll start the implementation of it now, and delete the old ones. I think I'll update the documentation to include an author tag for situations like this. Incidentally, this saves on categorising.
Designers and hardcore gamers are actually part of the audience that I want to attract - like TV Tropes. So if you know about the innate workings of video games, then you should be able to contribute to pretty much every game you've played.
Thanks for this. It will be much more useful to the site members!

Festive weapon ru

Hi, I do not understand why you broke Festive_weapons/ru article? :D Festive Scattergun usual and easy variant than Festive item. Why these changes? ru: Праздничная {{item name|{}}} u cant make one template for all festive weapons because of the features Russian syntax: "Праздничная бита" but "Праздничный ракетомет". Will be errors for example: "Праздничная ракетомет" RADISTKillicon conscientious objector.png 02:01, 21 January 2015 (PST)

The dictionary had around 30 different entries reading almost exactly the same. This change is trying to consolidate those strings, so that every time a new festive weapon is added, it doesn't need its own string. If there's a pluralization concern (which seems to be what you're saying), it would be very easy to add an additional plural parameter. I.e:
Festive item -> Праздничная Обрез
Festive item -> Праздничный Обрез
Darkid (Talk | Contribs) 05:18, 21 January 2015 (PST)
Праздничное Банкате, Праздничное Вдохновляющее знамя, Праздничные Горящие Рукавицы Ускорения, Поддай праздничного леща... -_- Festive Scattergun was better, Festive item very uncomfortable for russian. Easier to use regular links (Праздничный обрез or Праздничный обрез than this fiddly syntax:( (ps in russian localized files all festive variants of stock weapons written in lower case: Праздничный обрез, Праздничный ракетомет, Праздничный гранатомет, Праздничный нож... oh :D) RADISTKillicon conscientious objector.png 05:46, 21 January 2015 (PST)
As you point out, stock being lowercase isn't the biggest problem. So there are 4 or 5 different suffixes? Could you explain generally what would require the use of any given one? Darkid (Talk | Contribs) 05:55, 21 January 2015 (PST)
Mmm maybe will be easier to read it here I'm bad teacher :D For example, Festive:
Masculine Feminine Neuter Plural
Nominative Case Праздничный Праздничная Праздничное Праздничные
And only Festive Holy Mackerel with -ого "Поддай праздничного леща".
ПраздничнЫЙ ПраздничнАЯ ПраздничнОЕ ПраздничнЫЕ
Weapons Minigun, Rocket Launcher, Flame Thrower, Scattergun, Stickybomb Launcher, Wrench, Knife, Axtinguisher, Sandvich, Frontier Justice, Huntsman, Ambassador, Grenade Launcher, Crusader's Crossbow, Sapper, Eyelander, Black Box, Wrangler, Shotgun, Revolver, Chargin' Targe, Bonk! Atomic Punch, Backburner, SMG Medi Gun, Sniper Rifle, Bat, Ubersaw, Force-A-Nature, Flare Gun, Bonesaw Buff Banner, Jarate Gloves of Running Urgently
RADISTKillicon conscientious objector.png 06:42, 21 January 2015 (PST)
Hm. The main problem I se is that all the languages are going to have rules for this, so it would bloat the template significantly. I guess the simplest method is to just have the dictionary strings :/
While we're on the subject, are the australium pages fine? Darkid (Talk | Contribs) 07:39, 21 January 2015 (PST)
Hi What's new with festive? How will we fix errors "Праздничная Обрез"? p.s. australium pages have no problems. RADISTKillicon conscientious objector.png 07:16, 25 January 2015 (PST)
Just revert the changes I've made. Tell me if there are any other problems-- Darkid (Talk | Contribs) 07:27, 25 January 2015 (PST)

Limited tag ru

Hello :D It's me again. Сan u help fix incorrect display of Limited tag on item pages? Tux/ru should look like: "Талисман ограниченной серии 1-го уровня" (Item type - Limited tag - Level). p.s Limited always translated as "ограниченной серии". RADISTKillicon conscientious objector.png 13:02, 27 January 2015 (PST)

Is gud? Darkid (Talk | Contribs) 13:11, 27 January 2015 (PST)
wrong "Талисман 1-100–го уровняограниченной серии". It should be "Талисман ограниченной серии 1-го уровня". Tag should be placed after "type" and before "level" ("Hat" -> "Limited" -> "1-100 lvl"). screenshot From Russia with Problems :D RADISTKillicon conscientious objector.png 13:25, 27 January 2015 (PST)
