By itself, the weapon does half the damage of the regular Fire Axe, except against buildings. On the other hand, it will always perform a Critical hit against a target that is on fire, yet will never have Critical hits on a non-burning opponent (not even during Humiliation or charged by the Kritzkrieg). The weapon may perform the Crit animation when swung, complete with the correct sound effect, but will not inflict critical damage unless the struck opponent is alight. Trivia
- On non-burning opponents, the Axtinguisher ties with the Gloves of Running Urgently and Equalizer at 200+ Health as being the weakest melee weapon in the game (although the Axtinguisher does not deal random Crits).
- In the censored version of Team Fortress 2 the Axtinguisher and the Übersaw are not stained with blood.
